Simple Bentonite Clay Mask

I have very complicated skin. It’s oily but also dry, super sensitive and acne prone. I finally found that the best thing for my face was to only use gentle or natural products and nothing scented or with exfoliators. Twice a week I use a gentle exfoliating sponge and I use a facial moisturizer every day.

Lately, my skin has been breaking out so bad. I attribute it to some kind of hormonal issue, but I HAD to do something different to stop my face from looking like a pre-teen boy.

I’ve been using bentonite clay in my moisturizers that I make for my body and they have been giving me wonderfully, moisturized skin but I continue to use a facial moisturizer that is oil free. I felt like i needed something extra to give my skin a boost and I knew bentonite clay was going to be a part of it. It’s packed full of minerals and it’s excellent at drawing out impurities from the skin. On the packaging labels for the clay, there’s usually recipes or suggested uses and one was so simple that I thought it could not work but I loved the results so I felt like I should share it with you. All you need is two ingredients: Bentonite Clay (Also called Indian Healing Clay) and Apple Cider Vinegar. If you loathe the smell of Apple Cider Vinegar, I assure you that the smell fades quickly and it wasn’t nearly as overpowering as I thought it would be. Apple Cider Vinegar has so many benefits for the skin and hair so it’s no wonder that it works so well paired with the clay.

This has been a game-changer for me. My skin is significantly softer, and I have less breakouts now. I use this twice a week as part of my skin care routine but I will also use it as a spot treatment and leave it on a pimple for about an hour before I go to bed and it reduces the size of the blemish quickly!

The mask goes on so silky and almost foam-like at first- far better than those store-bought ones (with all the questionable ingredients). If you have sensitive skin, then I would recommend letting it dry for about 8 minutes before washing off. If you experience any redness, apply a gentle moisturizer and it should fade within a few minutes.

The recipe is so simple:
  1. In a small bowl combine 1 Tablespoon Bentonite Clay and 1 Tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar.
  2. Mix well.
  3. Using clean hands or a makeup brush, apply a thick layer all over the face or problem area, avoiding eyes and lips.
  4. Leave for 10-15 minutes or until dry.
  5. Rinse your face in cool water.
